Okay I have found a solution (it worked for me, not sure if its 100% going to work all the time).

1) Turn off the XBox 360
2) Plug the two male USB's found on th Belkin KVM Switch into the XBox 360 (yes I know thats a pain, but it works)
3) Done :D It should now work!

Testing I did:
- Turned console off and on again several times, never got "Demo" Mode
- Starting with different modes on the KVM Switch (green/orange)
- Tried plugging in both male USB plugs into my computer (other device on the Belkin KVM Switch)

Testing I have not yet completed:
- Using a USB Hub on the back of the XBox 360 for both USB plugs on the KVM Switch
- Starting in different modes on the KVM Switch (green/orange) with the USB Hub

If it works for you, say so! I want to know. It worked for me, so there is no reason why it won't work for you to!

wow!! i thought the same thing u did, get a kvm, and i got the same belkin usb kvm only to see that the damn thing does not see they keyboard unless i plug it in direct. weird!! i decided also not to have the mouse in cause i have to wait a few sec for the pc to recognise it and i dont need it for the xbox anyway. there must be a fix some how!!

I gave up on the KVM altogether and returned the switch. The big problem seemed to be that the Xbox 360 only scans for usb peripherals on startup. So if it doesn't see it right away, it won't use it while the switch itself had its own ideas about which computer was active. In the end, it was just too much trouble.

Quick update: Finally had to give up on the Belkin KVM switch because to went all spastic on me and kept switching back and forth all on its own. Oh well, back to the mini keyboard...
